Hops Maiden England – 4.5% – English Pale Ale – Bottle
As the name states, the oatmeal pale ale uses all-UK ingredients. We’re putting out various prototypes of this beer as we experiment with traditional and new English hops. Expect earthier hop aromas and flavours but none of the drabness, we’re Weird Beard after all!
I found it a little too dry and bitter at the end for me.
Look – Golden and clear.
Aroma – Citrus, mainly orange. Not getting much else.
Taste – Initially sweet then orange and bitter.
Feel – Medium body.
Finish – Bitter and very dry.
£2.79 from Honest Brew.
Curse of the Ryeclops – India Pale Ale – 7.5% – Bottle
The next in our Rye series, an amplified version of the first with added zesty Citra hops. Same bold spiciness, bigged up to match the bitterness and ABV; similar hops but with the injection of Citra, this Rye IPA is bursting with pineapple notes too.
Really enjoyed this, thoroughly good. It masks the % really well, doesn’t taste like 7.5%. Get this in your mouth!
Look – Light Amber with a slight haze.
Aroma – Caramel, Pineapple and a bit of rye spice.
Taste – Caramel, pineapple and rye spice. Nicely balanced.
Feel – Medium – full body. Creamy and smooth.
Finish – Slight bitter with dryness, lingering spice.
£3.20 for 33cl from Beer Gonzo.
